new year's day

|

i was lost
on the wrong side of the continent
drifting like a fog
across the pacific rim
i wandered far and wide
out here it's not too hard to hitch a ride
i thought maybe i'd find
someplace that i could stay a while
and now it's new year's day
i'm packed and set to run away
there ain't much left in this town
to keep me hanging around
i was living by the sea
some things they just aren't meant to be
so i guess i'm just passing through
'round here that's just what people seem to do
sometimes they disappear
they just vanish into thin air
never to be seen again
and everyone they know forgets
and now it's new year's day

the end of the road
03:28
|

At the end of the road
I will see you again
With the sun on your face
And I will take your hand
i will show you
This place I have found
We will bask in endless summer days
Let the whole world fade away
Under the stars
Under the roar of crashing waves
Who knows what we will find
After all we've left behind
All things must end and begin again
It just takes a little faith
I know you're scared but i know you're brave
And if you give me a chance
I know I'll make your heart sing and dance
At the end of the road
Where nobody knows
This strangers face
I up and left my home
Found myself all alone
In this strange place
But what will come we cannot know
And so blindly we must go
With just a dream to chase
I can only hope
I will see you again
With the sun on your face

pushing stones
to the side of the road burning gasoline
i know it's a joke
but it's i spend my time these days
twisting dust
up in the air and into your mouth
it's nothing personal
i just do what i'm told these days
too clever by half
and all i can do is laugh
watch the stones now they're rolling back
imagine me
happy if you can
pushing stones
drawing lines in the parking lot
burning gasoline
watching the tide rise and recede
breathing smoke
in and out replacing nicotine
i know it's a joke
i get what i want but never what i need
and what a waste
did i leave a bad taste in your mouth
it's just the way
i escape when there's no way out
i just do what i'm told these days

mercy
02:41
|
|||
dreams of apocalypse
wine on your teeth and lips
blood pushing out fingertips
that grasp at your skin
cracked voices sing
a melody that burns and stings
scraped out of the lungs
and spat on the ground
and we're all breathing smoke
on some dubious hope
as the mind makes the world
in its own broken image
we can't lose our way
because being lost is the way
this agnostic prayer won't be heard
but still we say
oh have mercy
on these frail bodies
oh have mercy
on me
we can remember
in the rapture of hallucination
passing through these gates
as martyrs and apostates
this blood is real
even as we lose the strength to steal
the fire of the gods
we can't escape their chains
and all that remains
is a memory like tobacco stains
nostalgia for an age
that has not yet come to pass
the last beats of the heart
hollow out our broken veins
and all that is left
is this empty refrain
oh have mercy...
